Dirt! The Movie Website

CLIENT: Common Ground Media
PROJECT: Drupal-Compatible Site Design & Flash Navigation

Given my background in online marketing for movies, it seemed fairly natural to me to be contacted by Common Ground Media in order to do the design for the companion website for their upcoming movie. When I met Gene Rosow and he pitched me their fantastic concept for an irreverent documentary on dirt, I knew that I had to work with them.

The back end of the site was being built by the excellent folks at CraftySpace and was driven by Drupal, so I knew my design needed to be largely template-based and compatible with a variety of tasks. The site couldn’t feel like a standard CMS-driven site — it needed to capture the fun and vibrancy of film in the hands of creative people. My solution was to set the entire site actually underground, in the dirt, and to add a Flash navigation that was full of easter eggs to encourage users to play around with the page.

One of the things I love most about this project is how everybody has their favorite rollover. Myself, I’m partial to the mole.
